Kohjinsha SH6: Fixing the BlueSoleil BT stack

If you read my first post on the Kohjinsha SH6, you'll know I had major problems with the bundled BlueTooth stack provided by BlueSoleil. The BT mouse I bought in Low Yat Plaza, KL never worked. I could discover the mouse, pair it and even select HID bindings. The status display showed it exchanging data bytes as I wiggled the mouse, but the cursor never moved. The mouse worked first time on my Mac.

The guys at PA Mart pointed out that Kohjinsha had used an unusual BT chip in the laptop and the softare didn't support it. This sounded a rather screwey explanation given I could discover / pair / transfer data but they seemed confident, that they had raised a support call into Japan and would let me know.

Over New Year, I got fed up and started googling. The crucial clue came in this post and confirmed my suspicions about drivers and hence BlueSoleil.

The SH6 shipped with an old version and while newer ones where only a download away, it seemed as if I would have to buy it. Emboldened by the other poster, I downloaded version 5 of BlueSoleil. Note - this was an trial in itself as both http and ftp downloads would stall and fail. I finally managed to get a full file downloaded using wget:

wget http://www.bluesoleil.com/download/files/IVT_BlueSoleil_5.0_for_32bit_OS.zip

Installation was hit and miss. Mine stalled half way through as others had found but restarting, turning off the BT hardware and re-trying did the trick. And I now have a working BT mouse, and so far, I've not had to buy BlueSoleil or be limited by any demo restrictions. I still need to fire up BlueSoleil and manually connect the mouse but it's better than nothing.
